About Lee House Farm

Lee House Farm Cottage can be found on the southern fringe of the Peak District National Park between the traditional market towns of Leek and Ashbourne, and a short distance from the village of Waterhouses.

The beautiful and unique location  of the cottage places it just alongside the traffic free Manifold cycle track which now follows  the course of the former Leek and Manifold light railway line which during its short lifespan ran from Waterhouses to Hulme end near Harrington. The route of the cycle track also follows the river Hamps which is sometimes dry depending on rainfall.

Lee house farm appears on a map of the Duke of Portland’s estate in 1633 but we can only guess what it looked like in those days. It has been in the present ownership for the last thirty something years and is no longer a working farm.

The cottage is located on the same site as Lee House Farm Tea Room which has been established for over thirty years and where tea, coffee and home baked cakes are always available.
.  For walkers there are footpaths all through the valley and to the villages passed on route without the need to ever get back in your car.
If you like to cycle, the Manifold cycle track is virtually flat, being a former railway line, but winds its way through a deep limestone gorge and is nearly nine miles end to end. There are bike hire shops at both ends

We also have a wood fired cedar hot tub which is available  at an additional cost of £80 per session. We use fresh water every time we light it (no chemicals) and we have to keep the fire going for about 3 1/2 hrs until the water temperature is correct. Time is approximate depending on outside temperature, temperature of water, dryness of logs and amount of wind. Fantastic on a clear frosty night due to the lack of light pollution  and is just perfect to relax in and take in the surrounding environment in true peace and quiet.

Waterhouses is just 1 1/4 miles away and offers a shop, chip shop and pubs  and places to eat. The Towns of Leek and Ashbourne can both be reached in around 15 minutes and provide ample amenities together with cobbled streets, well-preserved architecture and fascinating heritage.

For thrill seekers and family days out, Alton Towers is also around 20 minutes with its theme park, waterpark and spa. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

An antidote to modern day living, a chance to slow down to the pace of the valley.

Away from the outside world but close enough to get reconnected  when you feel recharged. The valley is home to many species of British wildlife including deer, foxes, badgers, stoats, hares and many birds (including peregrine falcons), butterflies bats and glow worms if your very sharp sighted !
